What is a Visual Presentation?
VP stands for visual presentation. Through VPs, 4H members learn the elements of how to speak in public. Each members thinks of a topic; writes speech with an introduction, details and a conclusion; puts together a visual with demonstrations items and poster board; and then delivers a speech on that topic in front of the club. Club leaders evaluate your performance and offer ideas for improvements. Members have the opportunity to deliver their VP at a county competition and at a state competition. It's a great way to develop public speaking skills.
Visual presentations teach, entertain, inform or persuade. There are several different types including a demonstration, illustrated talk or team presentation.
A demonstration is a way to teach others how to do or make something. In a demonstration, the presenter shows and explains each step of a process. A finished example of what has been demonstrated should be displayed at the end of a demonstration.
An illustrated talk is a useful way to explain a topic if animals or equipment necessary for the presentation are too large or hard to handle (in Massachusetts, the use of live animals is no longer allowed in a visual presentation). The presenter depends on models, posters, or charts to explain the topic in an illustrated talk. A finished example is not required.
A team presentation is given by two presenters. Each presenter should participate equally in preparing and presenting the information. A team presentation is actually more difficult to prepare and present.
Club Visual Presentation Information
Every member of the Woodville Trailbusters must give a VP at the club level. It is up to you if you want to move on to County level after that. VPs this year must be delivered on either February 6th or February 13th at Sue's between 9am and 12noon. All members must give their topics to Sue by January 16th. You may change your topic after this, but you have to at least have an idea.
County Visual Presentation Information:
Congratulations to all who completed their VPs. Anyone who is
interested may now compete at the County VPs being held on March 20 at
